PADI EXPERIENCES: Zoe’s PADI Rescue Diver

When did you start diving?

I got my PADI Open Water Diver certification when I was at university. Although I would have liked to start before then. I remember snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia when I was about 11 years old, and my older siblings went off to dive. I remember watching them and dreaming that I wanted to learn to breathe underwater too.

What was your diving experience before taking the PADI Rescue Diver course?

I had done about 30 dives before doing my PADI Rescue Diver course. I did about 8 dives in England with the university and then went to Mexico. There, I then did my PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course and started diving for a conservation group called Operation Wallacea, for which I carried out reef biodiversity surveys.

What made you want to take the PADI Rescue Diver course?

I’d wanted to take the PADI Rescue Diver course ever since I’d just finished my PADI Advanced Open Water Diver! It took me a while to save up the funds and find the time to do it. I’ve travelled a lot filming over the past few years, but this year I finally decided I wanted to do it. Now I can’t wait to do my PADI Master Scuba Diver!

How was the Touch e-learning method for learning the theory parts of the PADI Rescue Diver course?

The PADI Rescue Diver e-learning was fantastic! It was quick and easy to follow.

Did the PADI Rescue Diver course deliver what you expected to get out of it?

Doing the PADI Rescue Diver course with Evasioni Blu Diving was fantastic! I knew PADI Rescue Diver would be harder than PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, but with all the time they dedicated to me, they helped me fully understand everything about every emergency situation and how to handle it.

Did you enjoy yourself during the PADI Rescue Diver course?

It was a lot of fun! Also, I hadn’t been diving for a while, so it was simply fantastic to get back in the water to learn more.

Which part of the PADI Rescue Diver course did you enjoy most?

I couldn’t say! It was fun practising the scenarios, and doing them with the dive center team was fantastic, because they made it intense, but at the same time also a lot of fun!

Which part of the PADI Rescue Diver course was hardest to learn?

Getting the order of steps for the final practical scenarios right was a bit overwhelming at first, but it wasn’t too difficult after a bit of practice!

What’s the most important lesson you learned from this course?

I definitely think learning to stay safe while trying to help someone in trouble is one of the most important things. People tend to forget that they need to make sure they themselves are safe rather than rushing in to help as fast as possible. Learning to pause, to take a step back to assess the situation, is definitely important!

What underwater emergency situations could you handle now?

I now know how to respond when a diver is in trouble, whether responsive, unresponsive, breathing or not, actively or passively panicked, as well as how to search for missing divers!

Do you feel confident in your PADI Rescue Diver skills?

Yes, I had an excellent PADI Instructor who let me practise as many times as I felt I needed to, and I passed all the tests with ease!

How do you think the PADI Rescue Diver course has changed you as a diver?

It made me more confident, and made me want to dive more and continue my training towards PADI Master Scuba Diver!

Anything you’d like to add..?

I absolutely loved my PADI Rescue Diver course, and I’d encourage anyone to do it, especially with Evasioni Blu Diving! Thank you! X
