A dive into the blue, among pinnacles rising from the depths towards the surface, surrounded by enormous amberjacks and schools of barracuda.
The dive site is located about 1 mile from the southwestern side of the island of Ustica. It’s the classic dive into the blue, to reach the first and shallowest of three pinnacles that rise from a seabed of about 50m towards the surface up to a depth of 25m.
Each of these pinnacles has different shapes, drawing unique scenes, walls, valleys and promontories. A true spectacle of life appears before our eyes finning around 30m among these spires covered with benthic life, red gorgonians, false black coral and brown algae. Our dive has no fixed route, searching for the clouds of barracuda and amberjacks that station around the pinnacles. Encounters with these pelagic species are certainly numerous. Dentex and sea bream move stealthily near the walls of the spires. It’s already time to ascend, one more look around and quite likely, like a flash, the sight of a tuna darting quickly before our eyes. The safety stop before surfacing can also hold some pleasant encounters.
